3 statues of Yajiro, Bernardo and Xavier
450 th anniversary of landing of St. Francis Xavier , who first brought christianity in Japanese history, met 2 Japanese called Yajiro and Bernardo of Kagoshima. We at Xavier Memorial Association are planning to build those 3 statues in oreder to comemmorate Saints 450th anniversary of landing in 1999 The landing of St.Xavier at Kagoshima meas an epoch making encounter of the East & the West.
Meantime the persons who showed the saint Kagoshima and the first Japanese student to Europe are both from Kagoshima. Moreover we have to recall the names of Aban the captain of the ship, Lord Takahisa Shimadzu who made first misson possible in Kagoshima and Ninjitsu, the buddist priest who became an intimate friend of Xavier.
We would like to recall all the names related to Xavier, however; we would first like to build those of Yajiro, Bernardo and St.Xavier on the occasion of the 450th anniverssary of the landing. Those statues will enphasise the leap of youths of Kagoshima in the middle centuries.
Recently many tourists from all over the world are visiting the land of Kagoshima, longing to trace the footprints of the famous Captain Saigo, Okubo and youths of the Meiji Restoration.
In addition to them new statues will promote better impressions of Kagoshima as an international city.
We are very much appreciated if you agree to our project and donate for this purpose.
